FOUR DAYS ON AMERICA:  #4 July 4, 2023

I still think America is a great place because I know there are at least 165,000,000 good people here who live each day with a kind heart.  People like

President Jimmy Carter….

who,  after leaving the White House, founded the Carter Center and has done more for humanity in the last 40 years than he ever could have accomplished as a politician.  The Carter Center seeks to prevent and resolve conflicts, to enhance freedom and democracy, and to improve health worldwide.   This institution will live on as a beacon of hope for all humanity long after Jimmy leaves this world.

Lebron James…

who has donated over $100 million to charities through his Lebron James Foundation. He has provided support for basic amenities, education, and quality housing. He opened the I Promise School in Akron, Ohio, to provide educational opportunities for underprivileged students.

Danny Wuerffel…..

After playing six years in the NFL, Danny retired and returned to New Orleans to work with Desire Street Ministries, a nonprofit organization that seeks to help impoverished neighborhoods through spiritual and community development. Wuerffel had first become involved with the organization while playing for the Saints in the late 1990s, and as the organization attempted to recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he became its executive director. Under Wuerffel, Desire Street Ministries moved its headquarters to Atlanta and expanded its programs to other inner cities in the American South.       READ MORE

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar…

sold his NBA championship rings and his  MVP awards for a total of 2.8 million and gave the money to fund his projects for disadvantaged youth.   He believes in creating opportunity for all youth through education.

Mark Cuban….

millionaire owner of the NBA Dallas Mavericks, when faced with the cancellation of games during COVID, paid his hourly employees who work at the American Airlines Center for the initial six postponed Mavericks home games, through April 11, 2020.

Gloria and Emilio Estefan

“Me and Gloria, we went through a lot in our lives, and we had to ‘Get on Your Feet’ many times in our lives,” he told reporters. “We’re going to go through rough times, but I believe in the spirit of the country. I believe in America,” Emilio said.  Spend a few minutes to learn more about the struggles of this powerful, immigrant couple  READ MORE.

When the pandemic hit in 2020 and they were forced to lay off 300 employees, Emilio noticed that CVS was looking for staff.  He reached out and within a week all 300 were screened by the company and placed into new jobs.  There’s a lesson in remembering your roots.

“Well,” you say, “all those people are millionaires, successful athletes, and business people.  Certainly there are not 165,000,000 more of THOSE people.”

And you are right.  All of those people are rich and famous.

But that is because regular good people don’t attract any attention.

I guarantee you they are there and if you start looking for them in the waiters, the cashiers, the carpenters, the landscapers, the teachers, the nurses, the secretaries, the mechanics, the police personnel, the firefighters, the bank tellers, and the bagboys, YOU WILL FIND THEM.     So start looking!
